The days on the calendar seem to be getting shorter as we now are approaching the summer weather. With summer just around the summer it's time to get your home prepared for the warmer weather that is quickly approaching us.

Below is a list that we have complied of 5 great things that you can begin to do around your home to get ready for the summer.

1. START PLANTING & TIDY UP YOUR GARDEN

Roll up your sleeve and get prepared to pull out those dead weeds in your existing flowerbeds and gardens.

Even if your living in a tiny apartment it is a smart idea to begin growing your own fruits, vegetables and herbs. With the shortage of produce and high prices of items such as tomatoes growing your own produce can help with cutting down your grocery costs.

Those with garden can start tilling the top inch or two of tightly-packed soil without disturbing any bulbs nestled below. Complete the process by applying two to three inches of mulch.

2. GET YOUR BBQ READY

Many of us can't wait for the summer weather to dust off our grills and begin the great outdoor cooking life but why wait until the summer to get your grill ready! By doing a quick and thorough scrub-down of your grill will get you ready for your future mouth watering meals.

To get started, set your grill to a high temperature setting 10 minutes. Doing this will allow the gunk that is found inside the cooking area easier to scrape off. Proceed to disconnect the grill and allow it to cool completely before removing and washing the drip tray, grates and burners.

At this time you'll also be able to take a inventory of what items you have and what items you may have to purchase such as coal, lighter fluid and cooking utensils.

3. TOUCH & STOCK-UP YOUR HOME EXTERIOR & INTERIOR

Dust of those celling fans as well as any box fans and cooling systems. Do you have peeling paint on your fence, siding or deck? Have you checked your deck lights and bug repellents? Make sure that all cracks in your home or any areas where cool air can escape are sealed. This will help keep your electric bill down.

Give things a quick touch up while making sure that the little things that you wished you had last summer to be comfortable is addressed before the arrival of this summer.

4. PREPARE YOUR AIR CONDITIONER

Don't wait until the arrival of summer to pull out your AC and check your cooling devices in both your car and home. Perform a light cleaning based on the devices manufacture directions to ensure that there are no dust or direct that would cause the device to malfunction.

Allow the device to run for a short period of time after cleaning it. At this time you can determine if you'll need to replace your device or if you need additional devices to achieve the level of desirable temperature in your home.

5. LET THE NATURAL LIGHT SHINE IN

Natural light which is created from the sun can wonders for your health and light bill!

It is suggested to on a cloudy day to fill up one bucket with a cup of ammonia, a cup of vinegar using a second bucket add a gallon of hot water and lastly a third bucket with warm water. Scrub your windows with the vinegar-ammonia blend initially, followed by the warm water, before drying with a squeegee and/or a newspaper.
